According to a recent report, the use of high tech devices among kids, ages 0 to 8, 72% have used a smartphone or tablet.

50% have used a mobile app.

Average time per day spent on a mobile device in 2011, 5 minutes.

Average time per day spent on a mobile device in 2013, 15 minutes.

Con:
Hi tech devices or smartphones limits the parent-child relationship. In other words, it interferes with the bond.

Pro:
Hi tech devices have educational games and apps that will strengthen the bond between parent-child.

You see it everywhere — 3 or 4-year-olds, on the cusp of tantrums, being satiated with a smartphone game or a cartoon on a tablet. It seems harmless enough, but is this early life tablet use harmful to our kids?

According to a piece from Boston Children’s Hospital, not only can smartphone use inhibit your child’s social development, but it can also encourage the development of bad habits down the line. Satiating an angsty child with a tablet means you are rewarding bad or unwanted behaviors with a treat. This encourages the child to act out in the future, because he or she knows they will be pacified with an electronic treat.
