What’s your baby’s name?

How did you go about choosing her, or his name?

Did you look into a name directory and choose the most popular name? Or, was your baby’s name influenced by a deceased

family member who had an untimely passing, or an iconic and famous figure. Most names have a specific meaning behind them. My step-son’s name is Derek. I’m do not where the name was derived from, or the meaning behind it.

Most parents are proud of their family’s heritage and ethnic background so they will often times name their child based on

this fact. Example: if you are of Irish decent, you would give your child an Irish name like “Fitzpatrick.”

My eyes zeroed in on a Yahoo Parenting piece today, written by Pamela Redmond Satran and Linda Rosenkrantz that focused

on baby’s names that were once in the top 10 (Barbara)  and these once common and popular names are becoming extinct.

This article was voted one of Yahoo Parenting’s best, so I think it’s worth sharing with you.
