Republican Presidential Hopeful is Under Fire For What He Said About Syrian Refugee Toddlers.

The New Jersey Governor, and GOP Presidential candidate Chris Christie, fresh of the Bridgegate controversy, was apparently trying to score some political points………

and resurrect his flailing presidential campaign, when he made these scathing remarks about the civil war ravaged

Syrian toddlers. To paraphrase the Governor, he said “Syrian orphans under five years old should not be permitted into the United States.

Check out the full scoop of what the Presidential hopeful said:

Never mind that he has no legal authority to stop anything: The Refugee Act of 1980 gives the president explicit statutory authorization to accept foreign refugees, particularly during an “unforeseen emergency.”

Not even a governor’s Mighty Mouse bluster can change that, but if he carries out his threat to bar the New Jersey Department of Human Services from working with the feds – which he can do – let him reap the whirlwind.

But here’s what makes Christie shudder, or so he says: The vetting process just doesn’t match up to his canny instinct for hidden danger.

Wrong: Resettlement in the U.S. is a 13-step, multi-year process. One must first qualify for refugee status; then obtain a reference from a UN commission, a U.S. embassy, or a trained NGO; and then submit every shred of background data to the State Department before they even reach Step 4.

Then numerous security checks are done, some are sent through an additional review that involves intelligence agencies, and then the applicant is printed and interviewed by Homeland Security.

That’s just six steps, and it’s already 18 months into the process. DHS approval doesn’t even come until Step 8, long before a refugee is permitted to walk out of the airport.
