The Bank Street approach is something I most recently learned after reviewing an article on getreadytoread.org divides the learning environment between traditional classroom settings and the natural world.

The High/Scope Approach

The final approach is another one that I had not heard of, The High/Scope Approach. Upon reading, I believe I found this one the most interesting. This approach actually allows the child to take charge. Children are taught and given the tools to plan their own day of learning. Seemingly, this approach is one that is sure to give a little more of a real world experience, or perhaps pique the minds of future entrepreneurs.

So perhaps you’ve figured out exactly which type of school best fits the foundation of the learning experience you are seeking to provide as the foundation for your toddler’s education. However, there are couple other things to take into consideration such as the actual learning and teaching environment in the classroom.

Types of Curriculum

The Teacher’s Agenda

Growing up I recall arriving up to school and there was a day already put in place outlined according to our teacher’s plans. In college, there was the syllabus, of course, which was pretty much the same as grade school – preplanned according to the teacher’s sole input. As you’ve probably guessed, that is what a teacher-led learning environment looks like.

The Children’s Agenda

However, on the other hand, I ‘ve learned that not all toddler school learning environments operate that way. In fact, those that do they exact opposite are called child-centered learning environments. The curriculum is based on the interest of the students. I am certain our tiny minds would appreciate their interests are being accommodated. Not to mention, it sends a clear message that their interests are important.

Faith- Based Learning

Faith-based settings are just as they seem. Generally, most faith centers, according to one’s belief, will have either a learning division within the facility or nearby. The curriculum is based upon the core principals of the particular beliefs.

Everyone is involved

A Co-operative Learning environment is one that directly involves the parents and their contributions, whether it’s through volunteer work, fundraising and any other endeavor that can contribute to making the learning experience of your toddler’s school valuable and a success.

Motherhood is a journey and filled with lots of obstacles and different things to figure out. Choosing your toddler’s school does not have to be as hard as the many other things you are certain to encounter.

As you can see, there are a few things that have to be taken into consideration when sorting out the best toddler school to lay the foundation of your child’s education. However, well-researched information makes for a well thought out decision.

Perhaps you have been to this rodeo a time or two and have a few more pointers for moms that are new to toddler schooling, share away as we are always looking forward to uplifting each other!
